Walsh Jennings, Ross win fifth straight tournament,
capture title at AVP Cincinnati Open at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio

Three-time Olympic gold medalist and Olympic silver medalist continue perfect season with 26th consecutive match victory and fifth consecutive tournament title in 2014; Jake Gibb and Casey Patterson win men’s title at AVP Cincinnati Open for second straight year

MASON, Ohio (August 10, 2014) – The AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour concluded the three-day AVP Cincinnati Open on Sunday as champions were crowned in front of a full house at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.

To the delight of the crowd, three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross – a 2012 Olympic silver medalist - extended their perfect season, winning their fifth championship in as many tournaments this season while improving their match record to 26-0 in 2014.

In the women’s final, Walsh Jennings and Ross, seeded first, toppled second-seeded Lauren Fendrick and Brooke Sweat – their opponent in all four previous finals this season – 21-14, 21-15. The victory was the third individually in Ohio for both Walsh Jennings and Ross, and their first in the state as teammates.

Already the winningest female player in beach volleyball history, Walsh Jennings won her 122nd tournament worldwide, tying her with Randy Stoklos for third all-time regardless of gender. She now trails only Sinjin Smith (139 wins) and Karch Kiraly (148) in her chase for beach volleyball immortality.

On the men’s side, second-seeded Jake Gibb and Casey Patterson captured their second straight AVP Cincinnati Open and their second AVP title in the last three tournaments with a 21-13, 23-21 victory over sixth-seeded Nick Lucena and Ryan Doherty in Sunday’s final.

It was the duo’s sixth on the AVP Tour since becoming teammates to start the 2013 season.
