Three-time Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor, partner Brittany Hochevar advance to semifinals at AVP Kingston Seattle Open
Olympic silver medalist April Ross and Jennifer Fompa, seeded first, advance to the other women’s semi, while men’s semifinals feature all four top-seeded teams

Seattle, Wash. (August 8, 2015) – Three-time Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor continued her improbable run Saturday in the AVP Kingston Seattle Open, as she and partner Brittany Hochevar remained undefeated in the tournament and advanced to Sunday’s semifinals.
May-Treanor, who retired after winning the gold medal at the London Olympics exactly three years ago, returned to competitive play and won her two matches Friday alongside Hochevar, beating higher-seeded opponents in both matches. Saturday, the 11th-seeded May-Treanor and Hochevar dispatched second-seeded Jennifer Kessy and Emily Day, 21-17, 21-17. They advanced to a 10:40 a.m. Sunday semifinal, where they’ll encounter a rematch with third-seeded Summer Ross and Lane Carico.
May-Treanor has won 66 AVP tournaments in her distinguished career, the most recent coming in July 2010, which also happened to be the last time she played in an AVP event.
General admission for the AVP Kingston Seattle Open is free, and a limited number of VIP tickets are available for purchase at www.AVP.com or on site at the tournament.
Top-seeded April Ross and Jennifer Fopma advanced to the other women’s semifinal, where they’ll face fourth-seeded Kim DiCello and Kendra Van Zwieten Sunday at 11:45 a.m.
In the men’s bracket, all four of the top seeds advanced to the semifinals, though two of those teams had to fight through the contenders’ bracket in the double-elimination tournament. Sunday, top-seeded Jake Gibb/Casey Patterson will meet second-seeded Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena in a 9:35 a.m. semifinal. In the first match of the day, third-seeded Tri Bourne/John Hyden will meet fourth-seeded Ryan Doherty/John Mayer in the other men’s semi at 8:30 a.m.
Play in the main-draw tournament continues Sunday starting at 8:30 a.m. and runs through the tournament finals at 1:30 p.m. (men) and 3 p.m. (women). Sunday’s matches include:
- 8:30 a.m. – Men’s semifinal, featuring third-seeded Tri Bourne/John Hyden vs. fourth-seeded Ryan Doherty/John Mayer
- 9:35 a.m. – Men’s semifinal, featuring top-seeded Jake Gibb/Casey Patterson vs. second-seeded Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena.
- 10:40 a.m. – Women’s semifinal, featuring third-seeded Lane Carico/Summer Ross vs. 11th-seeded Misty May-Treanor/Brittany Hochevar.
