Gold, Silver and Bronze for Canada in North Bay
NORTH BAY, Ontario, July 13, 2014 – Canadians Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter decisively beat Puerto Ricans Roberto Rodriguez and Erick Haddock to claim their first gold medal of the year in the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit with a 21-11, 21-12 victory on Sunday.
Binstock and Schachter, both of Richmond Hill, Ontario, relied on their strong and high blocking game to dominate Rodríguez and Haddock who were seeking their second title of the year. "We never get the opportunity to play at home, so we had an extra motivation today,” 2012 Olympian Binstock said. “We have not really been together for a full season, but we had a good off-season together and the chemistry is developing. Now we have to keep that rolling.'
It was the third medal of the season for the Canadian team, adding to their bronze and silver medals in Manzanillo and Huixquilucan, Mexico, respectively. The silver medal for the Puerto Ricans was their fifth podium placing of the year.
